Law Enforcement Civil Liability

Manning & Marder, Kass, Ellrod, Ramirez handles a full range of civil cases and has developed
considerable expertise and a superior reputation in Law Enforcement Civil Liability

LAW ENFORCEMENT CIVIL LIABILITY

Weakened public respect for law enforcement has affected judges and juries alike, resulting not only in inflated and overheated rhetoric about "conspiracies" but also in an explosion of civil lawsuits against police officers, special agents, sheriff's deputies, and correctional officers. Nearly every law enforcement encounter now carries the potential of being second-guessed in a subsequent civil suit.

We are extremely well-equipped to represent the interests of individual law enforcement officers, supervisory officials, and their employing public entities. We understand the importance of cutting off harassing litigation at the earliest possible time. We take all necessary steps to avoid open-ended discovery into documents, which are or should be protected based on legitimate privacy and law enforcement concerns.

We have assembled a team of highly motivated, experienced attorneys who work together on such high stakes litigation to give our clients the best possible representation. Many of our attorneys are former deputy district attorneys, and deputy attorney generals, and have had significant trial experience in prosecuting high visibility crimes like murder, rape, and wrongful death civil suits.

We support these attorneys with an in-house "think tank" that can provide our trial attorneys with appropriate case authorities in fast-developing situations, and when necessary, prepare trial briefs or appellate writs. We track all significant cases on law enforcement civil liability as they are issued, allowing us to have the benefit of the most recent and most comprehensive case law resources to back up our attorneys.

As a result of these resources and talents, we have had outstanding results in defending police officers, deputy sheriffs, judges, special agents, correctional officers and officials, district attorneys and private security guards. We represent all different types of law enforcement under very trying circumstances and under the glare of public scrutiny.

Our law enforcement clients include police departments from various cities such as Inglewood, Beaumont, and Southgate; Sheriff's Departments in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties; the California Department of Corrections and its employees; various federal and state law enforcement agencies; and the Regents of the University of California.
